The lint trap in a dryer is designed to catch lint and clothing fibers during the drying cycle. However, after repeated use, a buildup of oils and residue can clog the lint trap screen, and simply removing the bulk of the lint is no longer completely effective. On top of a buildup in the lint screen, lint can also be pushed around edges of a lint trap into the dryer cavity, causing a serious fire hazard. The lint screen should be thoroughly cleaned periodically to maintain dryer efficiency and safety.
Dryer Vent Wizard offers dryer lint screen, lint trap, and appliance cavity cleaning as part of our maintenance services. This small step will save energy, help your dryer work more efficiently, and minimize a fire hazard. In between professional cleanings we recommend that you check your dryer’s lint screen by running water through the screen. If the water puddles, scrub with a soft brush, soap, and water. Clean until water runs straight through.
